राजाने याप्रमाणे सांगितल्यानंतर दासींनी जाऊन गोपीचंदास सांगितले की, चंपावतीला भेटण्यासाथी तुम्हास राजाने बोलाविले आहे. तेव्हा प्रथम त्याचा जाण्याचा विचार नव्हता. मग बहिणीला भेटण्याकरिता म्हणून तो त्यांच्याबरोबर गेला. त्यांनी त्यास राजाज्ञेप्रमाणे घोडशाळेत नेऊन ठेविले व गोपीचंदास आणल्याबद्दल राजास व राणीस जाऊन सांगितले. मग राणीने अन्नपात्र वाढून दिले. ते घेऊन दासीने त्यास अश्वशाळेत नेऊन दिले व चंपावती मागून भेटावयास येणार आहे, म्हणून सांगितले. हे ऐकून गोपीचंद राजाने मनात आणिले की, मानपान पैक्याला असतो. आपण तर बैरागी झालो. आपणास शत्रुमित्र समान आहेत. आपल्यापुढे आलेल्या अन्नास पाठ देऊन जाऊ नये. विवेकाने असे विचार मनात आणून तो तेथे आनंदाने भोजन करू लागला.

गोपीचंद राजा जेवावयास बसल्यानंतर त्यास राजवाड्यातील स्त्रियांनी पाहून चंपावतीस आणून दाखविले व निर्लज्जपणाने सोयर्‍याकडे येऊन घोडशाळेत भोजन करीत बसला, म्हणून तिच्या तोंडावर त्याची फारच निंदा केली. ती चंपावतीस सहन झाली नाही. ती तशीच त्यांच्यामधून निसटून घरात गेली व जिवावर उदार होऊन तिने खंजीर पोटात खुपसून घेऊन आत्महत्या करून घेतली.

इकडे गोपीचंद राजाने दासीस सांगितले की माझ्या चंपावती बहिणीस इकडे घेऊन या, म्हणजे मी तिला भेटेन. तेव्हा त्या म्हणाल्या, ती सहसा ह्या वेळेस येथे यावयाची नाही; आम्ही तिला तजविजीने रात्रीस घेऊन येऊ व तुम्हास भेटवू. आता तुम्ही जाऊ नका; मर्जी असल्यास उद्या जावे. ते त्यांचे म्हणणे ऐकून रात्री चंपावती भेटेल म्हणून ते त्याने कबूल केले.

मग दासी तेथून निघून राजवाड्यात गेल्या व चंपावतीस पाहू लागल्या. तो तिची ती भयंकर दशा झालेली पाहून त्या दुःखी झाल्या. त्यांनी लागलेच हे वर्तमान सर्वांस कळविले. तेव्हा घरची सर्व मंडळी धावून गेली. सर्वांनी रडून एकच गोंधळ केला. तिचे गुण आठवून ते रडू लागले व तिच्या भावास शिव्या देऊ लागले पुढे भावाकरिता चंपावतीने प्राण दिला, अशी बातमी थोड्याच वेळात सर्व शहरात प्रसिद्ध झाली.

राजवाड्यात रडारड चाललेली ऐकून ती का चालली आहे, असे गोपीचंदाने अश्वरक्षकांस विचारले. तेव्हा ते म्हणाले की, गौडबंगालचा गोपीचंद राजा चंपावती राणीचा बंधु होय; तो राज्य सोडून बैरागी झाला व गावोगाव भीक मागत फिरत आहे, हे दुःख त्या राजाच्या बहिणीला सहन न होऊन तिने पोटात खंजिर खुपसुन जीव दिला. ही दुःखदायक बातमी ऐकून गोपीचंद राजासहि चंपावतीच्या मरणाचे फारच दुःख झाले व माझ्या येथे येण्यानेच हा सर्व अनर्थकारक परिणाम घडून आला, असे वाटून तो चंपावतीचे गुण आठवून रडू लागला.

मग चंपावतीचे प्रेत दहन करण्याकरिता राजवाड्यातील लोक घेऊन जाऊ लागले. तेव्हा गोपीचंदहि प्रेताबरोबर चालला. जाताना त्याच्या मनात अशी कल्पना आली की, जर ही गोष्ट अशीच राहू दिली तर जगात माझी अपकीर्ति होईल. यास्तव बहिणीचे प्रेत उठवावे व सोयर्‍यांनाहि थोडासा आपल्या प्रतापाचा चमत्कार दाखवावा. योग घेतला म्हणून या लोकांनी मला तृणासमान मानिले; यास्तव नाथपंथाचा प्रताप ह्यांना प्रत्यक्ष दाखवावा. ह्यांनी आमच्यात बिलकूल पाणी नाही, असा ग्रह करून आमची मन मानेल तशी निंदा करून मानहानि केली; यास्तव नाथपंथाचा तडाका दाखविल्यावाचून ठेविता कामा नये, असा विचार मनात आणून तो स्मशानामध्ये प्रेताजवळ उभा राहिला आणि म्हणाला. मी सांगतो ते कृपा करून ऐका. तुम्ही प्रेत दहन करू नका; मी जालंदरगुरूस आणून प्रेत उठवितो. ह्या प्रसंगी मी येथे असता भगिनीचे प्रेत वाया जाऊन दिले तर नाथपंथाची मातब्बरी ती काय? ह्या त्याच्या बोलण्याकडे कोणीच लक्ष दिले नाही. ते त्याची उलट कुचेष्टा करू लागले. मेल्यावर कोणी जिवंत होत नाही. असे अनेक दाखले देऊ लागले. तेव्हा गोपीचंद म्हणाला, तुम्ही म्हणता ही गोष्ट खरी; पण माझ्या गुरूचा प्रताप असा आहे की, त्याची कीर्ति वर्णन करताना सरस्वती दमली. त्याने कानिफासाठी अवघे देव पृथ्वीवर आणिले. मी त्यास घोड्याच्या लिदीच्या खाचेत पुरून टाकिले व अकरा वर्षानंतर त्यास बाहेर काढिले, पण जसाच्या तसा कायम ! तुम्ही चार दिवस प्रेताचे रक्षण करा, म्हणजे मी गुरूस आणून बहिणीस उठवितो पण त्याचे म्हणणे कोणी ऐकेना. लोकांनी प्रेत ठेवून चिता रचिली व ते अग्निसंस्कार करणार, इतक्यात गोपीचंद चितेवर बसून 'मलाहि भस्म करून टाका, माझे भस्म झाल्यानंतर जालंदरगुरूच्या कोपानळ शांत व्हावयाचा नाही व तो हे समग्र नगर पालथे घालून तुम्हा सर्वांची राखरांगोळी करून टाकील. असे सांगू लागला.

गोपीचंदाची अशी भाषणे ऐकून तिलकचंद रागावला व म्हणाला गुरूच्या प्रतापाची एवढी प्रौढी वर्णन करीत आहेस; तर आम्हास चमत्कार दाखीव. आम्ही चार दिवस प्रेत जतन करून ठेवितो. मग प्रेत खात्रीने उठविण्याचे त्याने कबूल केल्यानंतर गुरूस दाखविण्यासाठी प्रेताचा डावा हात तिच्या सासर्‍याच्या हुकुमावरून नवर्‍याने काढून दिला. तो घेऊन गोपीचंद गुरूस आणण्यासाठी गौडबंगाल्यात जावयास निघाला. तो बराच लांब गेल्यावर इकडे यांनी प्रेत दहन केले.

गोपीचंद सुमारे पाच कोस गेला असेल इतक्यात हा सर्व प्रकार जालंदरच्या लक्षात आला व गोपीचंद आल्यास घोटाळा होईल म्हणून तो स्वतः तिकडे जावयास निघाला. त्या वेळी त्याने प्राणास्त्राची विभूति कपाळास लाविली. पृथ्वीवर नैषधराजपुत्रावाचून ह्या अस्त्राची कोणास माहिती नव्हती. हे अस्त्र जालंदरास मिळाले होते. ते लावल्याबरोबर एका निमिषात तो शंभर कोस गेला व गोपीचंदास भेटला. तेव्हा गोपीचंदाने जालंदराच्या पाया पडून सर्व मजकूर सांगितला. तो ऐकून चंपावती उठविण्याचे गुरूने आश्वासन दिले आणि त्यासह पौलपट्टणास जाऊन राजवाड्यात सर्व मंडळी शोक करीत होती तेथे प्रवेश केला.

ह्या उभयतास पहाताच तिलकचंद पुढे झाला. त्याने जालंदरनाथाच्या पाया पडून त्यास कनकासनावर बसविले व आपण पुढे उभा राहिला. त्याने केलेला आदरसत्कार केवळ कुभावाचा होता. ही त्याची मानभावी करणी जालंदरनाथाच्या लक्षात येऊन गेली मग तो म्हणाला, राजा, चंपावतीचे तेज ह्या घरात लोपून गेले. ह्या घरात ती शोभत नाही. असे बोलून त्याने गोपीचंदापासून तिचा हात मागून घेतला. मग संजीवनीमंत्र म्हणून भस्म हातास लाविले आणि हाक मारिली; त्यासरशी चंपावती उठली व जालंदरनाथाच्या पाया पडली. शुक्राचार्याने कचास उठविले, तद्वत जालंदरनाथाने चंपावतीस उठविले. ते पाहून सर्व मंडळी प्रेमपूर्वक नाथांच्या पाया पडली. तरीसुद्धा ते प्रेम स्मशानातल्या क्षणिक वैराग्याप्रमाणे होते.

मग जालंधरनाथ उठून जावयास निघाले. तेव्हा तिलकचंद राजाने पाया पडुन प्रार्थना केली की, महाराज, मी पतित आहे. राज्यवैभवाने उन्मत्त होऊन गोपीचंदाचा छळ केला, तरी आता माझ्या अन्यायाची आपण मला क्षमा करावी. या बालकाचे अन्याय उदरामध्ये साठवावे ! असे बोलून त्याने पायांवर मस्तक ठेविले आणि ती रात्र राहण्याकरिता तो प्रार्थना करू लागला. मग जालंदराने तेथे एक रात्र राहण्याचा बेत केला. तेव्हा जालंदराने चंपावतीकडून स्वयंपाक करविला. तिला तिच्या भ्रतारासह आपल्या पंक्तिस जेवावयास बसविले व तिला अनुग्रह देऊन नाथपंथी केले व आपला उच्छिष्ट ग्रास देउन तिला अमर केले.

मग भोजन होऊन विडा खाल्ल्यानंतर जालंदरनाथाने राजास सांगितले की, गोपीचंद राज्य सोडून तपश्चर्यैस जात आहे. ह्याचा मुलगा मुक्तचंद अज्ञान आहे म्हणून त्याच्या राज्यावर तुमची देखरेख असू द्या. तुमचा प्रताप जगास ठाऊक आहे. म्हणून कोणी शत्रु उठणार नाही. मीहि येथे सहा महिने राहून बंदोबस्त करून देईन. परंतु त्यापुढे माझे राहणे व्हावयाचे नाही. म्हणून तू त्यास लागेल ती मदत देऊन त्याचे संरक्षण कर. ती आज्ञा राजाने मनापासून मान्य केली.

मग ती रात्र तेथे राहून दुसरे दिवशी दोघेहि मार्गस्थ झाले. गोपीचंद जालंदरच्या पाया पडून तीर्थयात्रेत व जालंदरनाथ हेळापट्टणास गेला. त्या वेळी राजा उभयतांस पोचवावयास गेला होता. गोपीचंद राजा बदरिकाश्रमास जाऊन तपश्चर्या करू लागला. जालंदरनाथ हेळापट्टणास सहा महिने राहून, मुक्तचंदास अनुग्रह देऊन कानिफासहवर्तमान फिरत फिरत बारा वर्षांनी बदरिकाश्रमास जाऊन गोपीचंदास भेटला. त्याच्या तपाचे उद्यापन करावयासाठी सर्व देवांना आणिले होते; तेथे त्याने त्यास सर्व विद्या शिकविल्या व पुनः दैवते आणून वर देवविले.
